S.S. Uruguay Proclamation

Eight days after the S.S. Brazil left New York on her first voyage under that name, the ship crossed the equator.  Dated October 16, 1938, this is one of the first Proclamations and this particular one is for Erwin ("Bill") Keeler, Sophia's father.  (Courtesy of Sophia Porson)

These leather Bidu cups belonged to my father-in-law, George W. Hufsmith, Sr.  He was head of the legal department for the Brazilian Traction, Power and Light in Rio in the l930's and '40's.  He and his family sailed on the SS Brazil. (Courtesy of Betty Gardner, daughter-in-law of Mr. Hufsmith, and her daughter, Liz Stone)
