VEENDAM

Veendam in Geirangerfjord, Norway

July 1973 - A beautiful photo of the Veendam in Geirangerfjord, Norway.  This was Veendam's first cruise.  (Courtesy of Hans de Haan who was a deck cadet on the ship.)

We have been told by representatives of Holland-America that the cross beam between the twin uptakes was added by Holland-America in order to resemble the Rotterdam V.

Aerial view from October 2, 1982, four ships at berth (left to right) the Homes Lines' Oceanic and Atlantic, the Veendam and the Scandinavia. ( Reprinted with permission of Carmania Press from book, "New York Shipping." )

May 14, 1983 - Holland America's Veendam, f/k/a S.S. Argentina, docked next to Home Lines' Atlantic

Of interest:  Home Lines was founded in 1946 and as part of its original fleet it owned two liners, the Argentina and the Brasil.  These two ships were not the S.S. Argentina and S.S. Brazil which were owned by Mooremack during the same time period.
